There is a monument in Węgorzyno, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the return of the Oder land to Poland, even though Węgorzyno is not actually located at the Oder, but at the Brzeźnicka Węgorza, a tributary of the Reska Węgorza, which itself is a tributary of the Rega, which flows into the Baltic Sea. Nevertheless, the citizens of Węgorzyno served in the Polish army which fought for those parts during World War II.
