In 1966, permission was obtained to build a church. Construction work began in 1968. The inhabitants of Łagiewniki, headed by foreman Alfons Wańczyk, made great contributions to the construction work.
On December 18, 1977, Bishop Herbert Bednorz established an independent parish in Łagiewniki Wielkie.
In 2005, the 700th anniversary of the village was celebrated. On the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the church, on November 8, 2009, Bishop Gerard Kusz consecrated the new belfry and 3 bells.
