Mountain road

Dodaj do planera
In 1744 the construction of Bergstraße (Mountain Street) was finished. It was financed from the royal funds and began two years earlier, on 10th of September. It happened despite the fact that Frederick the Great claimed that good roads are a great convenience in case of a possible invasion of foreign armies. On the other hand, a steep way up was a difficulty for the Prussian army subordinate to the ruler. There were built the retaining walls which protected the steep slopes from a slide and the road surface was cobbled. Because of the type of terrain and a necessity of drilling almost a gorge, the construction of the road was very difficult.
